What CRESTOR does

If you or someone you care about has high cholesterol, ask a doctor if CRESTOR® (rosuvastatin calcium) may help with cholesterol management. CRESTOR is a prescription drug that belongs to a group of medicines, called statins, that are used to lower cholesterol.

Most of the cholesterol in our blood is made within our bodies, by the liver. And that's where CRESTOR comes in. CRESTOR works by blocking an enzyme in the liver. It reduces the amount of LDL (bad) cholesterol produced by the liver and raises the HDL (good) cholesterol.

CRESTOR can lower LDL cholesterol up to 52% (at the 10-mg dose versus 7% with placebo). It can also increase the amount of HDL cholesterol in the blood by up to 14% (at the 10-mg dose versus 3% with placebo). Of course, your results may vary.

Along with diet, CRESTOR is also proven to slow the gradual buildup of plaque in the arteries, a disease called atherosclerosis, as part of a treatment plan to lower cholesterol levels to goal.

After starting CRESTOR, you should still follow a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol and stay active in order to get the most benefit from the medication. Talk to your doctor before starting any exercise program.

Other factors to consider

Some people have additional health factors that make it even more important to get their cholesterol levels right. For example, if you or someone you care for has diabetes or high blood pressure, or other risk factors, it’s important to speak to a doctor. Physical inactivity, obesity, having a higher waist circumference, having diabetes, or even someone’s age (being older than 45) can also be risk factors that affect cholesterol levels.
